ALBERTA UPDATED EXPRESS ENTRY AND WORK PERMIT POLICIES
The Government of Alberta has introduced key modifications to its immigration framework, effective March 17, 2025. These changes impact candidates applying through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) and their eligibility for Express Entry and work permits.
Under the revised AAIP guidelines, Express Entry candidates who submitted applications after September 30, 2024, will now have the opportunity to extend their expiring profiles, providing more flexibility for applicants navigating the process.
However, Alberta has chosen not to implement the federal government’s temporary work permit initiative for 2025, citing resource limitations. This decision means that temporary workers seeking permits in Alberta will need to explore alternative pathways for legal employment status.
Additionally, Alberta has stopped issuing invitations through the Family Connection and Occupation in Demand Stream. While these specific invitation streams have been discontinued, candidates can still earn points for having eligible family ties in Alberta, which could improve their chances under other selection criteria.
