THE AAIP INVITED 81 HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS THROUGH THREE DRAWS
Alberta continues to strengthen its commitment to addressing healthcare sector labour shortages through targeted immigration efforts. In the first two weeks of April 2025, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) issued a total of 81 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to healthcare professionals across three separate draws, demonstrating the province's strategic use of immigration to support critical workforce needs.
The first draw, held on April 1, 2025, invited 34 candidates through the Dedicated Health Care Pathway – Express Entry stream. Eligible candidates required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)-equivalent score of 60 to be considered. This stream is aligned with the federal Express Entry system and is designed to expedite the selection of candidates with healthcare experience and strong potential for integration into Alberta’s health services.
The second draw took place on April 3, under the Alberta Express Entry - Priority Sectors stream, which focuses on high-demand occupations. A total of 19 healthcare professionals were invited, with a minimum cut-off score of 71. This stream identifies top-ranking candidates from the federal pool whose skills and experience align with Alberta’s economic and labour market priorities.
The third draw, conducted on April 6, issued 28 invitations under the Dedicated Health Care Pathway – Non-Express Entry stream. Candidates required a minimum score of 53 to qualify. This pathway allows healthcare professionals who are not in the federal Express Entry pool but meet Alberta’s provincial eligibility criteria to still be considered for nomination.
As of mid-April, Alberta reported that 3,308 nomination spaces remain for 2025, with 3,499 applications currently under processing. Notably, the province is managing an Expression of Interest (EOI) pool of 53,578 candidates across all streams and pathways, underscoring the strong interest in Alberta as a destination for skilled immigrants.
In total, Alberta has issued 665 invitations and 1,567 nomination certificates so far in 2025, reinforcing the province's proactive approach to addressing labour market gaps—particularly in the healthcare sector.
