IRCC INTRODUCED A NEW CREDENTIAL ASSESSMENT ORGANIZATION FOR ARCHITECTS

On May 22, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced a significant update for architects planning to immigrate to Canada. The IRCC has designated the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) as a new educational credential assessment (ECA) organization specifically for architects. This designation is targeted at individuals identifying as architects under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) 21200.

The CACB will now be responsible for issuing ECAs to these applicants, ensuring that their foreign degrees, diplomas, or certificates are validated as equivalent to Canadian credentials. This step is a crucial eligibility criterion for various economic permanent residence programs in Canada. The introduction of the CACB as an ECA organization underlines the commitment of IRCC to maintain high standards in the validation process of foreign qualifications.

Moreover, the CACB-issued ECAs will not only determine the comparability of foreign architectural qualifications with Canadian standards but will also play a pivotal role in the licensing process. This ensures that immigrant architects are recognized both academically and professionally, facilitating a smoother transition into the Canadian architectural landscape.
