CANADA CONTINUES TO OFFER LEGAL STATUS FOR UNDOCUMENTED CONSTRUCTION WORKERS

The Government of Canada has announced a significant initiative aimed at providing legal status to up to 6,000 undocumented construction workers as part of efforts to address ongoing labour shortages in the construction sector. Immigration Minister Marc Miller unveiled the plan, which will help retain workers already contributing to the industry while ensuring their rights and protections are upheld.

This move comes in response to a projected recruiting gap of 85,000 construction workers by 2033, with current shortages already affecting 64,000 jobs. These gaps are particularly impacting housing development, a crucial part of Canada’s growing population needs.

The decision is in line with Canada's three-year immigration plan, which aims to reduce the number of temporary permits issued while focusing on granting permanent residency to workers already in Canada and contributing to the economy.
