CANADA SETS IMMIGRATION RECORD IN 2024 WITH NEARLY HALF A MILLION NEW RESIDENTS

Canada welcomed an impressive 483,395 new permanent residents in 2024, just shy of its ambitious target of 485,000. This milestone marks a significant increase compared to previous years, continuing the steady upward trend in immigration since 2015.

India remained the leading source country, contributing 127,320 new residents. However, there were also notable increases in immigration from other nations, such as Cameroon and the Philippines, reflecting the growing diversity of newcomers to Canada. Additionally, settlement patterns are shifting, with Atlantic Canada experiencing substantial population growth as more immigrants choose to establish themselves in this region.

Despite this record-breaking year, Canada has announced plans to gradually reduce its immigration targets, setting them at 395,000 for 2025 and 380,000 for 2026. These adjustments come as the government evaluates economic, housing, and labor market factors to ensure a balanced and sustainable approach to immigration.
