CANADA REPORTS SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS IN BORDER SECURITY AND IMMIGRATION MANAGEMENT

Throughout 2024, the Government of Canada implemented enhanced border security and immigration control measures, achieving notable results in addressing unauthorized crossings and asylum claims. A key development was the expansion of the Safe Third Country Agreement (STCA) with the United States, which proved instrumental in reducing unauthorized border crossings. Daily asylum claims dropped from 165 to just 12, underscoring the effectiveness of this bilateral initiative.

Additionally, Canada introduced selective visa requirements for Mexican nationals, which led to a 97% decrease in asylum claims at airports and a 72% reduction in unauthorized southbound crossings into the United States. These measures have streamlined immigration management while strengthening Canada’s commitment to upholding its immigration policies.

Canada’s strategy also included improved information-sharing protocols and refined visa policies, fostering collaboration with international partners and ensuring a well-regulated system that supports legitimate immigration pathways while addressing security concerns.

These efforts reflect Canada’s ongoing dedication to maintaining an efficient, fair, and secure immigration system, balancing humanitarian responsibilities with border management priorities.
