CANADA EXPERIENCES A MINOR INCREASE IN IMMIGRATION APPLICATION BACKLOGS
Recent updates from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) indicate a minor increase in the backlogs of immigration applications, revealing the ongoing challenges faced by the department. According to the latest data, there are currently 2,420,800 applications awaiting approvals for permanent residence, temporary residence, and citizenship across all IRCC inventories.
The update shows that 55.4% of applications within the inventory are being processed within service standards, highlighting IRCC's commitment to timely processing. However, the department aims to achieve a target of processing 80% of applications within their established service standards. It is important to note that some complex cases may require more comprehensive assessments, contributing to delays.
Currently, 53% of temporary residence requests—including applications for visiting, studying, or working—are facing backlogs. Similarly, 37% of permanent residency applications are also experiencing delays. Additionally, 17% of citizenship applications are exceeding service standards, adding to the challenges for applicants navigating the system.
